An update on Sarah
So I thought I should update on Sarah's progress thus far. Sarah has been off seizure meds for almost 3 weeks. We took in her sample a week ago and expect to hear from the doctor today regarding her calcium levels. From there we will make decisions with the neurologist and plan to put her back on a low dose of meds since she has had 2 seizures during the time off meds. The interesting thing to me is that she only had the seizures when we removed the meds entirely! So I am hoping we can reintroduce a very low dose of medication. We are seeing some negative behaviors off the the meds which is sad....lots of excess energy and an inability to settle herself and attend to school tasks. Additionally lots and lots of tearing. I can't even count how many books I have had to throw away in the past 8 weeks. Sarah used to LOVE to sit and look at books and now its just tear, tear, tear. She's very restless.
To have a child like that 24/7 is very draining to parents. We tend to think of life with Sarah as a marathon and realize we are only at the beginning of the race. Because we want to finish we look for means to accomplish that goal. In this case that relates to medicating Sarah to an appropriate energy level. I don't want my child "drugged up" but I do want to have the ability to care for her over my lifetime. So with that in mind we are eager to have the pieces of the puzzle in place as soon as possible and thankful for her teachers too, who are patiently dealing with all of this as well.
We did notice at about the mid point in weaning Sarah a wonderful disposition in our daughter. There was an increase in affection, her attitude was pleasant and there wasn't the restlessness or the tearing. So we are hopeful that with some "tweeking" we can find the right combo for Sarah. Please pray to that end.
