Have you ever quietly listened to your child’s interactions with others or watched them play without them knowing? I like to do this sometimes. For one, you can learn a lot about your kids. And often you get a really good laugh, or two, out of it. I have been privy to many sweet moments this way. Today in the craziness that is a morning at our house Timothy went into Sarah’s room. I knew she was already awake because I had heard her playing in her crib. When I realized Timothy was in her room talking to her I decided to sneak over and do some eavesdropping. I listened as Timothy repeated the same statement to her over and over, “Talk Sis, talk.” I peeked around the door and could see him standing next to her crib imploring her to speak to him.. She was sitting down looking at him. Listening to his statement over and over. I can only assume she WANTED to respond. All too soon I was discovered which wasn’t bad since I got a hug from Tim and a smile from Sarah.
Its been interesting, this journey with Sarah. Interesting in many ways because her delays and lack of skills, etc. affect more than just Sandor and I as her parents. It affects her siblings, grandparents, extended family, and really any one who cares about her. I was surprised to hear Tim’s comments and that he also wants dearly to converse with her.
Please pray with and for us. We are looking closely at a genetic syndrome that we believe MAY be a more accurate diagnosis for Sarah and that is Angelman’s Syndrome. I will keep you posted as to developments in this area. We are just asking for God’s peace and wisdom, guidance and direction.
On a happy note, as I sit her typing I am watching my twins play TOGETHER! It is a very sweet and special moment for me!! This was something I was quite disappointed to “loose” in the early days of their babyhood. I wanted to experience that twin blessing and felt I was not ever going to as Sarah’s development lagged so far behind her brother’s. And here we are today. Its not the fast, paced, wild boy play Timothy gets from his older brothers (which I enjoy watching too), no, he is working at her level but they are playing together. So I am going to go and enjoy that!!
FYI--for those of you following Sarah via her website this post is also there. Sorry for the duplication but hey, I have to cut corners where I can. :-)
